Du Roi Laboratory was established in 1994 and specializes in the production and distribution of 
disease-free, virus-indexed tissue culture banana plants. These plants are multiplied from superior selections obtained from the Du Roi Laboratory foundation block. Unique single clone banana selections bred in the foundation block have been extensively tested, evaluated and compared for commercial performance attributes over the past six years. (2003-09)
Du Roi Laboratory produces over six million banana plants annually for sale to the Southern African market as well as to private and multinational Companies in West Africa, North Africa, Middle East and South and Central America. Up to 70% of the total production is exported in either the in-vitro or in-vivo (weaned plant) stages.
Du Roi Laboratory provides extensive technical support to local and international customers. This is offered in the form of detailed technical consultations on all aspects of commercial banana production plus the planning, provision and management of turnkey nursery facilities for receiving weaned banana plants.
Du Roi Laboratory continually interacts with leading international institutions in order to identify and implement improved laboratory, nursery and commercial banana production practices.
A strategic decision was made to focus only on tissue culture banana plant production and sales. This decision has enabled the company to successfully grow its image internationally. Well planned continuity of production and international market spread has positioned Du Roi Laboratory as a recognised leader in the supply of tissue culture banana plants. However the production and market potential of a range of additional tissue culture products is continually being assessed.
